Generations of Love | Greenwich Maternity Photographer

Newborn

The journey from maternity to birth is one that usually isn’t walked alone. There is often the loving spouse walking alongside the whole way, supportive friends cheering us on every day, and family that will drop everything to help at a moment’s notice. This is especially true for Jennifer, and I had the wonderful opportunity to join her and capture her journey from maternity all the way to when they met their adorable son.

For the maternity session, Jennifer and her husband Darrell were joined by Jennifer’s mother, Alessandra. I love to see other beloved family members get in on the fun, and unfortunately it’s not something I see too often. The decision to have a maternity session was not the easiest one that Jennifer has made in her life (unlike her decision to say ‘yes’ to Darrell just three years ago), but it’s one that will pay off for a long time to come. Jennifer says, “I was initially reluctant to have a maternity session, but I think this is a time in our lives that we’ll want to remember.”

The shoot took place on a gorgeous day, which only complimented Darrell and Jennifer’s gorgeous style and personalities. Their smiles were beaming, and they made it easy for me to capture the essence of their happiness in the session. We got some cute pictures of the couple on the lush, green landscape, and during the session Alessandra joined her daughter to complete the picture.

This is one of those special moments in their lives that they’ll be able to remember forever, like the first moment they met each other online over 6 years ago, to when they moved from Manhattan to Greenwich, all the way to meeting their beautiful son, James. This beautiful baby boy lit up my studio with his budding personality, and I loved being creative and brainstorming with his parents on how we should set up his newborn session.

We decided on a palette of blues, grays, and whites, which worked perfectly with James. I gently posed this precious little one on a bed of gray furs and fabrics, swaddled in a baby blue blankie. I got some close-up shots of his adorable tiny toes, as well as his handsome profile. We also wanted to highlight how cute James is when he sleeps, so we set up a scene where he’s dressed in a night cap and posed with his hands under his head. I love the way that this scene came out! The whimsy is in it is something that both I and his parents love, and it was so fun to capture.

Something even more special were the pictures where James was with his parents and his grandmother. We got some lovely shots of James with mom, with dad, and with all three together. But one moment that I adored was with James, his mother, and his grandmother; three generations of love captured in one photo. It takes time to make that picture happen, and I’m so glad that we were able to freeze that moment in time.

Enjoy!
